Designing Energy Solutions for Urban Sustainability

From Research to Impact: Transforming São Paulo's Energy Landscape

WDCD Clean Energy Challenge

Flutter Innovation collaborated with What Design Can Do (WDCD) on the Clean Energy Challenge, focusing particularly on São Paulo, Brazil, where we conducted extensive local research to inform the challenge briefing. Our team carried out in-depth analyses of the city's energy landscape, infrastructure, and community needs, while engaging with local experts, policymakers, and residents. This research was crucial in identifying key opportunities and constraints specific to São Paulo's context within this ambitious initiative that also included Amsterdam, Nairobi, Mexico City, and New Delhi.

Our role centered on translating these local insights into actionable frameworks, facilitating dynamic design jams and workshops that sparked creative solutions grounded in local realities. Through dedicated mentorship and strategic guidance during ideation and prototyping phases, we ensured that emerging solutions were both innovative and implementable within São Paulo's unique urban context. This hands-on approach, combined with our expertise in design thinking, helped bridge the gap between creative concepts and practical energy solutions.

The impact of this initiative extended beyond immediate outcomes, yielding a portfolio of practical design solutions that addressed São Paulo's specific urban energy challenges while fostering lasting partnerships with local stakeholders. Most importantly, our work contributed to meaningful environmental sustainability goals, improved energy accessibility for urban communities, and created opportunities for economic development through sustainable practices. This project exemplifies Flutter's commitment to using design as a catalyst for positive social and environmental change, with solutions deeply rooted in local context and research.
